This mural on the Stanmore Bay changing rooms was a project commissioned by the Auckland Regional Council and designed and painted with the involvement of local youth. Featuring a landscape scene with birdlife, flowers and fauna this was facilitated by artist, Anna Evans.
Anna and her team completed the project which subsequently won 1st place in the Resene Mural Masterpieces competition in the "Community Mural" category for 2013.
To also enjoy a couple of hidden treasures at this location, east along the path and past the playground you will firstly discover a stone sundial and, at the far point of the bay a hidden treasure being the tiny historical Stanmore Bay Anglican cemetery.
With Whangaparaoa Peninsula being part of a purchase by the Crown known as the Mahurangi Purchase, and the final sale not completed until 1854, the Glanville family were one of the early settlers in 1857.
