Since inception from seed funding from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the 14 km long trail has been in development with mapping the route, obtaining permissions/ approvals, developing the story, branding and artworks, creating signage, website, research and subsequent artwork installation much of the work is nearing completion.
Showcasing the beautiful Whangaparāoa Peninsula, Maori for “Bay of Sperm Whales” Whangaparāoa is a spectacular and unique Peninsula extending 11 kilometres into the Hauraki Gulf. Sprinkled with many sandy beaches and stunning vistas this is a trail worthy of a day or two to explore.
The trail runs from Gulf Harbour Marina to New World Shopping Centre and locals and visitors can walk our 14 km long trail in either direction, whether arriving by ferry into Gulf Harbour or travelling from our (eventual O Mahurangi Penlink) point at New World Shops.
Along the trail you walk along beaches, enjoy wonderful views, find parks and playgrounds for the kids and be able to access specials from local businesses.
At 8 key points you will discover "check in points". At these locations you can scan the QR codes to discover local Treasures including information and history on the area, stories and links to competitions and local business specials!
A day or two enjoying our Whangaparāoa Treasure Hunt promises to be an exciting mix of fun, culture, history, deals and activities with a "splash" of exercise!
Each Summer (December) and Winter (June) our competitions and specials will change giving our participants lots of opportunities to come back and do our trail again and again!!
